Time – The Great Devourer, The Final Leveler

Dear Godlike Friends,
Humble Pranams. Loving Greetings. Namaste. The intense cold of an aggressive winter is residing, surely but slowly in most parts of the world. Yet, in a few places, it refuses to leave. It wants to extract the last few drops of joy at the sad sight of few people before it leaves on the orders of its master, Kaal or Time. Kaal or Time, the great Devourer, the final leveler is impartial. Time is the most sincere, most impartial, the most efficient programmer or servant of God. It has no other consideration except to perform his Dharma, Duties, as commanded by God. Adi Shankaracharya’s observations. The Great Master of Adwaita, Yoga Vedanta, the Adi Shankaracharya, knew the Truth and the relation between the Creation and Dissolution, and, Brahma, the Creator, Vishnu, the Sustainer and Maheshwar, the Destroyer. Let us share some of his observations.

दिनमपि रजनी सायं प्रातः शिशिरवसन्तौ पुनरायाताः ।
कालः क्रीडति गच्छत्यायुस्तदपि न मुञ्चत्याशावायुः ॥१॥

dinamapi rajani saayam praatam shishira basantou punaraayaatah
kaalah ridati gachhatyayuh tad api na muncha tyaashaa baayuh

Adi Shankaracharya-Charpata Panjarika Verse 1

Day and night, evening and morning, winter and spring, come and go again and again endlessly. Such is the game played by Time and in the process, the life and longevity of all Beings are getting reduced and reduced till the inevitable end. Yet the cravings and desires never cease. So, wise friends, keep trying for Self Realization, Night and Day, fortnights and months, years and decades and centuries and so on. Keep on coming and going endlessly. Yet the cravings and desires never cease. And the resulting sufferings continue. So, wise friends, keep trying for Self Realization.

मा कुरु धनजनयौवनगर्वं हरति निमेषात्कालः सर्वम् ।
मायामयमिदमखिलं हित्वाब्रह्मपदं त्वं प्रविश विदित्वा ॥ ११॥

mā kuru dhana jana yauvana garvaṁ harati nimeṣātkālaḥ sarvam |
māyāmayamidamakhilaṁ hitvā brahmapadaṁ tvaṁ praviśa viditvā || 11

Adi Shankaracharya-Bhaja Govindam  Verse 11

Never entertain vanity, pride, and egoism based on material wealth, manpower and relatives, the pride of youthfulness and brute strength and resources. The impartial, relentless Time keeps marching on and tramples upon all these and devours everything in no time. So, wise friends, practice practical spirituality and keep trying to realize your connection and one ness with God in this very life.

पुनरपि रजनी पुनरपि दिवसः पुनरपि पक्षः पुनरपि मासः।
पुनरप्ययनं पुनरपि वर्षम तदपि न मुञ्चत्याशामर्षम्।।

punarapi rajani punarapi divasaha punarapi pakshaha punarapi
masaha punarapyananam punarapi varsham tadapi samuchatyashaamarsham

Adi Shankaracharya-Charpata Panjarika Verse 9

Night follows the day and again day follows the night. Fortnights are followed by months and months followed by half years and this again followed by years. These go on endlessly. People are conceived, born, grow, grow old, and die. This goes on endlessly. Yet, desires, greed, and cravings never end. The Masters keep us reminding us that the solution to this and for eternal joy is Self Realization. There is much more to this.

What are the connection and relationship of the people and all beings with God?

The answer to this is given in The Bhagavad Gita, more specifically in the 15th Chapter. Dear divine friends, you can confidently be assured, that, if you wish, you can realize your Real Eternal Infinite Supreme or Purusottama Self. If it cannot be possible in one lifetime, it is wise to try to realize your Kutastha or Akhyara or the Jeevatma State. Suppose, you feel that your desires for the experiences of the material life, needs to be fulfilled, you are free to opt for realizing your biological or material self. One may not even try it. Because all the time it is going on. But the consequences and responsibilities are all yours. So, it is true that one’s destiny is in one’s own hands. Please remember, the techniques of all the above is Kriya Yoga and this has to be learned personally from a teacher. Good luck and Godspeed to you.

May God and Guru Bless, Guide, Protect and Inspire each one of us and the Whole Universe.

With Love and Best Wishes,
Paramahansa Atmananda Ji
