In him was life, and the life was the light of men,

And the light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehended it not,
He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
Commentary by Sri Yukteswar
The Holy Ghost, being the manifestation of the omniscient nature, of the Eternal father, God, is no other substance than God himself and so these reflections of spiritual rays are called the Sons of God.
