yama niyama saadhanena pashutwa naashstatah beeratwamaasanaadi saadhane
yogyataa ch tadaiba saadhakaanasthaa prabartakasya(The Holy Science, Sutra-7)
General Meaning:
By the practice of Yama and Niyama, the eight meanness of the human heart disappears and virtue arises. Man thus becomes a Saadhak, a true disciple, fit to attain salvation.
Explanatory Notes:
It may be remembered that by the culture of Yama and Niyama, the eight meanness vanish from the human heart and magnanimity comes in. It is at this stage that man becomes fit for the practice of ascetic postures and the other processes pointed out by his Sat Guru to attain salvation. When he continues to practice the processes, so pointed out to him by his Sat Guru, he becomes a Saadhak or disciple.
